B. Comparative work
The majority of the world population lives in urban areas. These are territories characterised by high institutional fragmentation. How to govern metropolitan areas? My research compares models of metropolitan governance.

My research has been focused on comparing models of metropolitan governance, mainly in North America and Europe. I am interested in analysing both hard and soft processes of institutionalization at a metropolitan scale. In the case of existing metropolitan institutions, I study whether they are recognised as political players in systems of multilevel governance, analysing their competences, sources of financing and specially their systems of democratic representation and mechanisms of citizen participation. I also like to analyse whether the different political, social and economic actors have a metropolitan vision.
